The pipes can breathe again!
Jackie
The pipes can breathe again! Fabulous. And your workmanship is so good I will not hide it in a cloth bag!
Looking forward to the bellows to complete the renovation.
Cheers
Nigel

Geoff Wooff Uilleann pipe bag.
This bag shape is a copy of the one that came originally with my Harrington set and is also exactly the same shape as one found on an old Egan set. It suits the flat sets that I make .
I have been buying these bags from Jackie since 1998, previously I made my own.Making bags is a job that is better left to the experts. As well as the problem of finding "air-tight" leather is the problem of producing air tight stitching.
My method of obtaining air tight skins is to visit the leather merchant and look for hides of the right feel/thickness and then suck on the shinny side to see if it is possible to draw air through. Any leakage through the pores at this point is a cause for rejection of the piece.
For my bags I now pass this selection process to Jackie.
When I recieve a batch of new bags I inflate them fully by mouth, close the neck tightly and sit on them. If they deflate at all I am not happy. Although it is possible to seal a slightly leaky bag with a suitable dressing, it is far better to start with a staunch bag.
On very few occasions I have had to send back a less than perfectly air tight bag which Jackie will replace but for the most part I am totally happy with the bags I recieve. I use these bags exclusively and use them on very expensive instruments that I have spend months making. The quality of each component in a good instrument is very important and for a bagpipe a good bag is vital!
Thanks for your fine work Jackie,
Geoff Wooff.
